The film-makers want this picture to be seen as "just a romance" and not a "gay romance", which is a bit like asking viewers to think of Graham Norton as "just a chat-show host".
Frankly I can't see what's wrong with a gay romance, particularly as Carrey and McGregor do such a sterling job in roles that follow in the tracks of Oscar-nominated Colin Firth for his gay portrayal in A Single Man.
With many sexual references, those who think of Carrey as The Grinch are in for a shock but as always his comed

Jim Carrey was left drained and "exhausted" after embarking on an extreme diet to shed the pounds for his new film, I Love You Phillip Morris.
One scene shows the Mask star, who plays conman Steven Russell, lying on his prison bed with his rib cage protruding disturbingly from his bare chest.
"In the last week or so I was literally having this little tomato drink once in a while and I had water and supplements so I could stay alive but there was really nothing of substance", Jim said.

This is an odd film, not least because of its ludicrous yet apparently true plot.
Jim Carrey plays model citizen Steven Russell, a Texan police officer, church organist and happily-married father.
But he's hiding the secret that he's gay, until a car crash forces an epiphany.

IN cinemas today is a very unusual comedy starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as gay lovers — that's right, gay lovers.
Now this might not be to everyone's tastes but I thoroughly enjoyed I Love You Phillip Morris — particularly Carrey, who is excellent as the gay con artist Steven Russell.
Ewan McGregor lets the side down badly as he is thoroughly miscast once again (call your agent Ewan) as a blonde haired, effete gay man — sorry but so not convincing.

As surely as famous football players in Britain recently refused to participate in a commercial against homophobia - shame on them all - every major American studio refused to lend its name and money to I Love You Phillip Morris (). (In spite of the title, it has nothing to do with what Brits would call the fag business, this homosexual love story plus conman comedy, unless you are g

JIM Carrey delivers his best dramatic performance since Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind in this improbable and utterly incredible true story.
Based on a novel by investigative reporter Steve McVicker, I Love You Phillip Morris charts the romance of two prison inmates and their subsequent journey of self-discovery on both sides of the bars.
Writer-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa) strike a pleasing balance between laughter and soul-searching in this oddball comedy.

Jim Carrey's official website has taken top prize at the SXSW (South By Southwest) Web Awards.
Launched last November, the revolutionary site - www.jimcarrey.com - was honoured in the film/TV category, and judged on visual design, creativity and content.
Entertainment Weekly called the site "a visually stunning treat", TotalFilm.com called it "the best site on the web", and the Wall Street Journal called it a "bizarre visual treat".
